Cutting-Edge Vacuum Technology
Development and design of innovative vacuum coating systems for efficient and sustainable industrial manufacturing processes in metal strip coating.
About NEOVAC
NEOVAC GmbH develops and manufactures vacuum coating systems for the Zn-PVD vacuum coating of steel strip, as well as other industrial applications for coating metal strip.
NEOVAC’s goal is to develop environmentally friendly and resource-efficient manufacturing processes that combine efficiency and sustainability.
Competencies & technologies
- Experience: Employees with over 20 years of expertise in vacuum technology
- Technology: Magnetron sputtering, thermal and ion beam evaporation, PECVD
- Applications: Inline systems and batch systems for coil-to-coil coating of polymer films and metal strips
- Competencies: Development, design and manufacture of vacuum tools for series production
Karlstein Technology Center
At our technology center in Karlstein, we operate an industrial-scale pilot plant for Zn-PVD vacuum coating of steel strip. Here, processes are developed and validated, and materials are sampled—in a practical setting and under real production conditions.
One of the highlights of this system is the Plasma-Enhanced Evaporation (PEPVD) technology (PEPVD). NEOVAC’s plasma-enhanced evaporation process is an advancement ofconventional vapor jet coating. PEPVD combines the high deposition rate of vapor deposition with layer properties that can be precisely controlled.
Corporate structure & partners
NEOVAC GmbH was founded in 2021 as a joint venture between SMS group GmbH and SITIZN Group/AG². Today, NEOVAC is a wholly owned subsidiary of SMS group GmbH.
The SMS group is one of the world's leading plant manufacturers across the entire value chain of the steel industry. As a family-owned company headquartered in Mönchengladbach, it stands for quality, innovation, and decades of experience in plant engineering for flat steel production.
The SMS group’s flat steel portfolio covers the entire production chain—from hot and cold rolling to modern coating processes. Vacuum coating is a logical extension of this portfolio, designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality, functional steel surfaces.
